Translucent frosted glass, also known as ground glass or matte glass, is a type of translucent glass that treats the surface of ordinary flat glass into rough and uneven translucent glass by means of mechanical sandblasting, hand grinding, or chemical treatment. Due to its unique translucent and hazy effect, this glass is often used in applications where privacy is required, such as doors and windows in offices and bathrooms. The surface treatment of frosted glass makes it have the characteristics of light transmission and opacity, which can make the indoor light soft and not dazzling, and can also effectively block the sight of the outside world, provide a certain privacy protection, and is widely used in doors, windows, partitions, lampshades and so on in homes, offices, bathrooms and other places.

Production process

1. Preparation of original glass:

Select high-quality float glass original glass and cut it according to the required size and thickness.

2. Cleaning:

Before frosting, the oil, dust and impurities on the surface of the glass need to be thoroughly cleaned to ensure the treatment effect.

3. Coating of protective film:

During the frosting process, in order to protect part of the glass from frosting, a protective film may be applied to the area that does not need frosting.

4. Frosting:

• Acid etching method:

The glass is immersed in a solution containing hydrofluoric acid, which reacts with the silicate on the surface of the glass to form a frosted effect.

Control the acid etching time to adjust the depth of frosting.

After completion, remove the glass from the acid solution and thoroughly clean it to remove the residual acid solution.

• Sandblasting method:

Use high-pressure air to spray fine abrasives (such as quartz sand, aluminum oxide, etc.) onto the surface of the glass, and the impact force of the abrasive forms a frosted effect.

Control the pressure and time of sandblasting to adjust the frosted effect.

5. Remove the protective film:

If the protective film was previously applied, it needs to be removed now to expose the unfrosted glass area.

6. Cleaning and inspection:

Cleaning the glass again to remove all abrasives and residues.

Inspect the frosting effect and quality to ensure there are no defects.

7. Strengthening (optional):

To increase the strength and heat resistance of the glass, it can be thermally or chemically strengthened.

8. Cutting and shaping:

Depending on the end use, the frosted glass is cut, perforated, edged, etc.
